What is Brainspotting?

Brainspotting is a newer approach to therapy that incorporates body awareness, mindfulness, trauma therapy and parts work. It was developed by David Grand in 2003, and is now used widely to support trauma healing and resolving internal distress.

What is it like to be in Brainspotting therapy?

A Brainspotting session is different from a typical talk-based therapy session. The focus is on looking inward: noticing thoughts, feelings and other internal experiences. I’m right there with you to offer support and compassion.

The mindful processing in Brainspotting doesn’t require analyzing, logic, or even talking. It aims to work with the deeper, non-verbal parts of our nervous systems.

Brainspotting is based on the idea that where you look affects how you feel. Together we find an eye position, a “brainspot,” that connects with what you’re feeling, and we stay with it with curiosity and compassion.

Does Brainspotting therapy work?

Research is still catching up to this newer approach. The early studies are encouraging, but there aren’t many large studies yet.

Brainspotting is one of several approaches I use. We’ll decide together if it’s a good fit for you, and we can combine it with other compassion-based approaches.
