Neuroaffirming therapy for trauma, depression, anxiety

Neurodiversity and neurodiversity-affirming practices

We all have different ways of thinking, feeling, communicating, and experiencing the world. There is no "normal brain," but too often we feel pushed to conform to a specific way of being in the world. Those of us who are on the autism spectrum, have ADHD, dyslexia, and other neurological differences are not disordered, but interact with the world in different ways. A neurodiversity-affirming practice honors and values our neurological differences.

What is neuroaffirming therapy?

Those of us with neurodivergent minds often experience mental health issues related to "not fitting in," trauma, and everyday stressors. In my work as a therapist, I strive to honor our neurological differences in our session. Below are some of the principles that I hold during our work together:

  • Continuing to learn about ablism and how it impacts your mental health
  • Challenging social norms of exclusion and stigmatization
  • Understanding your worldview and perspective on wellness
  • Offering you control and choice throughout the therapy process
  • Being flexible in my therapy approach to support your healing
  • Exploring opportunities for advocacy and accommodation
